SCHOOL
PROFILE DEMOGRAPHICS
Cape Coral High School takes pride in having a rich history that is supported in tradition by both the school family and surrounding community. We have a faculty that consists of many teachers who have dedicated the majority of their teaching careers to Cape Coral High School. There are also numerous teachers who spent their formative years as students and have returned as teachers to continue the excellence of Cape Coral High school.
Cape Coral High School is committed to providing students with the necessary skills and developement to be successful while in high school and upon graduation. For the 2007-2008 school year, Cape Coral High has implemented a new freshman academy. The purpose of the freshman academy is to help new 9th graders transition successfully from middle school into high school. The academy provides small academic teams of core teachers who work closely together to monitor academic, social, and behavior progress in new freshmen. The new freshman academy will also allow students to begin the process of deciding what career path they would like to follow by enabling students frequent contact with their own personal counselor and career specialist.
Cape Coral High also has two programs which cultivate high academic acheivement. Our International Baccalaureate program and the Laureate program are distinct programs that set Cape Coral High apart from the rest. The International Baccalaureate program offered at Cape Coral High School is a four-year course of study that leads to the IB diploma. The curriculum is based on the concept that an upper level pre-university education should encompass a broad range of subjects, which accommodate diverse student interest and intentions while adhering to consistent standards.
The Laureate Program is designed for students wishing to plan a challenging high school academic experience. To earn a Laureate Diploma, students must complete pre-laureate/pre-advanced placement, dual enrollment, and advanced placement courses.

Highly Qualified Teachers |
The Lee County School District is expanding recruitment efforts, targeting recruitment fairs, including our own recruitment fair more precisely, providing an extraordinary increase to our starting salary for beginning teachers, investigating low-cost housing options, and negotiating additional incentives such as tuition reimbursement for teachers. All of these efforts should help the District recruit and retain highly qualified teachers in all areas.
CCHS encourages teachers to pursue their Reading Endorsement through the District certification program. Teachers are encouraged to take the appropriate subject area tests to obtain in-field certification.
Professional Development is provided for all teachers to complete their ESOL certification.

| Communication with Parents |
Cape Coral High School uses a variety of formats to communicate with our parents. Communication to parents is done quarterly through a newsletter that informs them of SAC meetings, activities, and various events that take place during the year. Cape Coral High also uses the school web site as a tool for communicating the most current information to our families. Communication also occurs through our marquee that is updated daily with current events. Additionally parents are able to attend various open houses throughout the year where information is readily available in the various departments of our school. Parents also are encouraged to use Parent-Link, which is a new web based information system.
Cape Coral High School is in the process of incorporating an outreach program directed toward the minority parent population in hopes of keeping them better informed of school related issues in their native langauge. |
